Our Materials

Vintage and Antique textiles are re-used for their unique patina and aesthetic.
In doing so, we make completely individual bags, leave a smaller carbon footprint and less waste.

Our vegetable tanned hard bridle leathers and semi-aniline hides get better with age, and love to be treated every now and then with a leather moisturiser or saddle soap.

    ANTIQUE TEXTILES

ANTIQUE GERMAN FLOUR SACKS

These fabrics date from the 1830’s-1930’s.  Black typography tells the farmers name, the location of his farm and the year the sacks were used.

The age and original use of these sacks mean they can be very ‘distressed’. Marks, stains and original hand stitched repairs, enhance this, and are part and parcel to their appeal.       100% Linen

VINTAGE MILITARY TENT CANVAS

These fabrics come from the bags used to store tents in, from a Military Academy in Prague, and date c. 1940′s.

These original bags (which we cut up to make our bags with) are huge, and come with either wooden slatted bases, or with heavy duty riveted leather bases, and are often labelled with the original owners name tag.

ANTIQUE HUNGARIAN GRAIN SACKS

These fabrics date c.1920′s, and are hand woven on narrow looms.

Red or Blue stripes, slightly different on each sack, would have been specific to each Farmer, so that he could recognise his sacks at the Market!

Textures vary, but are typically heavier and slubbier than the classic antique French linens. Base colours are usually whiter and brighter than the German Flour Sacks.

VINTAGE KANTHA QUILTS

From Pakistan and India, these quilts are hand stitched and often made with vintage saris.

Dates vary from the 1970′s up to the present. They are still made today with the same hand stitching techniques.
